Technology progresses in the blink of an eye with developments, advancements, and breakthroughs coming at a dizzying pace. Things are likely to be different in six months with so many tech companies trying to one-up each other in the open market.

For today’s blog, Mike Coppola takes a look back at a few information technology trends of the past decade.

Increase of cyberattacks and cybersecurity

According to Mike Coppola, hackers and other cybercriminals presented clearer and more present dangers in 2010s than any decade before. Rise of the Cloud

In the past decade, a huge number of enterprises moved their IT systems to the cloud. For many organizations, this was an integral part of their ongoing digital transformation. Executives have opened up more to using hybrid solutions, too, where there’s a combination of on-premises, public, and private cloud storage. Large software firms are also integrating artificial intelligence into cloud-based enterprise software and introducing them to the mass market, Mike Coppola adds.

The beginnings of 5G

Businesses have maneuvered themselves into 5G to gain a competitive advantage via increased network bandwidth and speed at lower latency. With 5G, however, comes unknown risks with the rise of more cybercriminals and the growth of the Internet of Things (IoT), making it imperative to be security-oriented and invest in human training and security technology.
